At a recent tech event in Berlin, Lenovo presented new devices as well as a glimpse of the direction it is considering for the future of laptops. In a specially arranged space, the company offered hands-on access to different proposals, from an experimental concept laptop to a business notebook and an Android tablet.

The most distinctive exhibit was Project Swan. It is a concept laptop with a rollable display that unfolds and extends through a special mechanism. The name refers to elegance and transformation, elements reflected in the device’s shifting form as the screen changes shape. The result noticeably changes the image people usually have of a laptop.

Project Swan is not, however, a commercially available product. Lenovo is keeping it at the prototype stage and it has not moved to the final phase of mass production. It is not known whether or when it will be released, in exactly what form it will end up, or at what cost. Its value today therefore lies mainly in testing new ideas rather than offering an immediate purchase option.

The presence of Swan also shows that Lenovo continues to invest in research and development. The company is exploring different approaches to device design and use, even when they have not yet reached the stage of a finished product. Whether specific technologies will move into future commercial models remains open.

Closer to today’s market is the ThinkBook 14x Gen 2, with a focus on its display. During the presentation, the color performance, vibrancy, and contrast of the panel stood out. Lenovo paired these qualities with a chassis so thin and light that the device remains particularly unobtrusive in use. The business-oriented character of the model is thus accompanied by a strong visual experience.

Lenovo also presented the Idea Vibe with ARM architecture and the Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2. The latter sits in the Android tablet category and adds a different form of use to the range of offerings. The presentation was therefore not limited to one type of device, but covered different needs through laptops, tablets, and experimental concepts.

The event took place in a joint presentation with Motorola, although its products are not the subject of this analysis. For Lenovo, the key point was the coexistence of mature proposals such as the ThinkBook 14x Gen 2 and Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2 with an idea that is still in development.

The picture from Berlin is therefore twofold: Project Swan points to a possible future direction for laptops, while the ThinkBook 14x Gen 2, Idea Vibe, and Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2 represent more immediate proposals in different categories. Swan remains a prototype, with no known release date, final form, or cost.
