Google Gemini is receiving a new design across all Android devices, as Google begins rolling out the refresh through an update to the Google app. The change mainly concerns the look of the interface and more broadly brings a style that had previously appeared on devices with Gemini Intelligence, such as the Pixel 11 series. This is not a new model or a device change, but a visible intervention in the assistant’s everyday use.

The refresh is based on the Neural Expressive design language. The most noticeable point is the “Ask Gemini” box, which shows small dots and sparkle effects when the overlay is activated. As a result, entering Gemini gains a stronger visual identity, instead of appearing as just a static input field.

The move does not stop at the animated graphics. Once the short animation is complete, the edges of the text box gain a slight shadow, creating a more three-dimensional feel. The difference is more apparent in dark mode, while in light mode it remains much more subtle. The result therefore has more to do with the feel and recognizability of the interface than with any new Gemini feature.

Google originally introduced this aesthetic approach on devices with Gemini Intelligence, with the Pixel 11 series models cited as a characteristic example. Now the same design language is reaching a broader Android audience, without the rollout being limited to a specific phone model. That makes the change visually more consistent, even on devices outside the Pixel lineup.

Activation is straightforward: it requires updating the Google app from the Google Play Store. The rollout comes through the app and not through a separate process within Gemini settings. After installing the available version, the new interface may appear the next time the relevant assistant experience is opened.

If the change does not appear immediately, the recommended step is to force stop the Google app from Android settings. Then the user can open the app again and check whether the new “Ask Gemini” box appears with the sparkle effects and dots. The need for a force stop shows that updating the app does not always suffice for an immediate visual refresh.

At the same time, the Gemini app now supports creating and previewing files within conversations. A request can involve a text document, presentation, or spreadsheet on a specific topic, with the result remaining accessible directly from the app. This feature is more substantial than the new appearance, because it connects the conversation with a tangible working file.

The most useful reading of the update is that Google is gradually aligning the Gemini experience on Android, first aesthetically and at the same time functionally. The new design is easiest to spot mainly in dark theme, while using it requires an updated Google app; if the interface still does not change, force stop is the specific step recommended before looking for another solution.
